ElderCare in-home service provider closes doors

ElderCare Connections Foundation closed it’s doors last Friday, much to the shock of both caregivers and clients.

The Reporter Herald reports that for many of the clients and caregivers that have come to rely on ElderCare, the coming weeks will be difficult.

Seniors Etc provides full in-home care services in the Loveland, Lafayette and Boulder areas, and is also hiring for additional caregivers.

The Alzheimers Store is a great resource for all caregivers faced with taking care of an Alzheimers patient. They provide a variety of products to aid in every day living. They’ve also profiled one woman’s journey through elder care, and brings to light a growing problem with the sandwich generation. Not only are people finding themselves with the desire to save for children, a home, and retirement, but also being hit with the continual care of loved one’s in their lives.

Is there a balance between it all? Unfortunately for many people, the realization of the cost of long term care doesn’t hit until its too late to do anything about it.

AARP has a new resource site for caregiving

AARP.com has just released it’s newest site in beta, AARP.org It offers a variety of resources, including a section exclusively for the 44 million Americans that are caregivers for a loved one. You can join and share your ideas, your experiences, your photos and your videos. It’s a great way to find others going through similar situations.

Living with Alzheimer’s can mean many things to many people. But as a spouse, it can be especially traumatic.

CNN reported in an article this week about the effects of caring for a spouse with Alzheimers long before diagnosis.  After living for years as friends, lovers and partners, to be suddenly faced with someone who’s changing right before your eyes, with no idea why can be a scary experience.
